Whether you are looking to apply to art school or not, a strong art portfolio will make you stand out from other applicants. Colleges look for a mix of artwork that displays technical proficiency and explores issues and ideas that are important to the artist on a personal level. This class will help students develop their college art portfolios and prepare students for college level art critique so they will feel more comfortable talking about their artwork.
Drawing for Young Adults (Weekly - 9 Weeks) with William Demaria

Whether you want to be a traditional oil painter or a digital illustrator, it is very important to have a solid foundation in drawing. This 9-week class will allow students to pursue their own interests in art while also being introduced to fundamental principles of drawing. This class will start with pencil, then explore powdered graphite, and pen. Students will be provided with a mix of drawing exercises to develop their skills and opportunities to develop their own interests.
Monotype and Mixed Media—2 Day Workshop with Bridget Murphy
Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19, 11: A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
Explore using various media (printmaking, collage, painting) to create your monotype artwork. In this workshop we will discuss the principles and elements of design, composition, and combining drawing, texture, and color to create a monotype of an image using line on plexiglass, collage, and painting. Students will learn to transfer an image to paper, add collage materials, and paint onto the image to create final one-of-a-kind pieces of artwork.

The following week, the cardboard plate will be printed on the etching press using non-toxic inks and dampened paper. All materials are included, but please bring an apron and gloves. Drawing skills are not necessary. Nina Muys is an experienced printmaker and one of the founders of the Washington Printmakers Gallery.

Making Botanical Inks with Christine Harrison • Online Workshop
Saturday, January 6 & Sunday, January 7th 1:00 - 3:00 P.M.
On Saturday, using local tannin rich botanicals Christine will show how to create simple inks. Simmering onion skins, eucalyptus leaves, rose leaves or pomegranate skins. Make your own ink along with instructor or just watch and try later.
On Sunday, Christine will demonstrate making lake pigment for inks, paint or printing inks. This process will be shown in class and the different stages but students will complete on their own.
