About the Gallery
Welcome to the Washington Printmakers Gallery, the greater DC metro area’s primary source for contemporary fine art prints and photographs which contributes to the Washington DC community through outreach involving teaching, internships, lectures, and promotion of public art shows .
Founded by local artists in 1985, Washington Printmakers Gallery has long been the metro area’s primary source for contemporary fine art prints, and photographs. It has a membership of exceptional local and national printmakers, photographers, and book artists. The gallery has a full calendar of juried shows, group and solo exhibitions, workshops, classes, talks, and outreach programs. The gallery also houses bins and flat files with prints and photographs. All work is from limited editions.
Washington Printmakers Gallery was started by a group of artists who met at the Washington Women’s Art Center, and met monthly during the 1970’s and 80’s to critique their work, compare techniques, share resources, and host guest speakers in the art and print world.
For a number of years, the gallery was in the Dupont Circle neighborhood. In the early 2000s, the gallery moved to Silver Spring, MD, occupying a space upstairs in the building belonging to the Pyramid Atlantic Arts Center. In 2014 the gallery moved to Georgetown on Book Hill in Georgetown. In 2023, it moves to its current location.
We are a member of the Georgetown Galleries group along with Addison/Ripley, Calloway Art, Klagsbrun Studios. In the same block, Patisserie Poupon serves wonderful French pasties and the Fountain Inn, a 1783 tavern reborn has a rare spirits tasting room, cocktail bar & restaurant. Many other restaurants and shops are close as well. Visit us and our neighborhood!
