Class Description:
Art history can be a bottomless source of inspiration for artists but knowing where to look and knowing where to start can be intimidating. This hybrid studio/ lecture series will teach artists how to use art history to inspire their artwork and introduce them to interesting art movements around the world ranging from 18th century Chinese painting to Australian Impressionists and much more.
Bio:
William Demaria is an artist based in Baltimore Md, who primarily works as a printmaker and painter. He has a background in traditional European academic artwork and his personal art practice combines 18th century European engraving techniques with inspiration from traditional Chinese painting.
For classes, a syllabus:
Length of class: 4 Weeks
Week 1: Looking at artists as academies: English, French, Russian, and Australian.
Week 2: Finding Inspiration across art media: Technical History of Western and Asian Printmaking
Week 3: Appreciating Traditional Chinese Painting and Japanese Printmaking
Week 4: Appreciating Abstract: Modern Art without pretense.
Age of participant: Adult (young adults permitted with prior approval from instructor)
Skill level: All levels welcome
