Bob Burgess: SURFACES — February, 2019

Artist's Reception was Saturday, February 2, 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Bob Burgess employs digital techniques and tools to present what he sees. His series, Surfaces, is a collection of found painted walls and surfaces from many places during many trips. The French have a phrase for this: errant sans but, referring to wandering without a goal or a target and, therefore, to discover and, hopefully, show what others might have missed.Bob was a White House Staff Photographer from 1979-1981. Time Magazine included one of his photos in Pictures of the Year in 1981. His photographs are available at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and the Walter Mondale Vice Presidential Library. He was a still photographer for Ken Burns' The Civil War, The Capitol, and Jazz documentary films. His current online images are handled by Getty Photos. He has been a member of the White House Press Photographers since 1981. Bob has participated in many exhibitions including at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, and Open Shutter Gallery in Durango, Colorado. His book, Finding Paris, was published in 2010.
