Marie-B Cilia De Amicis — Moments Exceptionnels

Harar by Marie-B Cilia De Amicis

Opening Reception: September 11, 2:30-6:00pm

Marie-B whistled before she talked. She was born in Africa where there is no winter, where colors are magnificent, where the spices tickle the nostrils, where birds always sing, and where sugar has a central role in one’s life. She remembers riding the train and being captivated by the sun caressing the sea and spreading a glittering gold cape over the waves. Surrounded by the constant beauty of colors and light, she was fascinated and honed her observation skills. Then she moved with her family to France and into a new way of life that broadened her mind and developed her passion for traveling, languages and different cultures. Her travels to remote countries expose her to rich and unfamiliar cultures.

When Marie-B was twelve, she received a camera for Christmas. The camera looked like a black soap box, without lenses or flash. That was the beginning of a long series of experiments to capture the light and the bliss of the moment, starting with processing film classes in the dark chamber.

Moments Exceptionnels is a series of photographs which captures fleeting moments which a second later cease to exist; moments where the light, the colors and the creatures are in perfect harmony and become an exceptional whole.

Marie-B moved to the United States in 1999, and has been living in Washington, DC for close to 20 years.. She started to show her photographs in 2015, and has been juried in exhibits in New York City, Mexico City, the Washington DC metropolitan area, Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Tucson, Arizona and elsewhere. Her photographs have been published in local newspapers and exhibited online.
