Dress Talk
November 29 to December 29, 2024
opening reception: Sunday, December 8, 2-4:00 pm
I tell women's stories.
The women in my family practiced storytelling to teach me the essence of belonging, to voice the trauma of loss, to show me the steps they took to reinvent themselves, in order to reach the triumph of survival.
Storytelling is now my mission; to narrate the travels women took and still take to the expected or their chosen destination. Instead of words, I use objects, containing reflections of heritage and long standing traditions. My sentences are formed by pairing drawing techniques subconsciously expressed through the particular mood of that moment. My tone of voice is the rhythm my compositions are formed, the feelings superimposed in their completion, the echo of my grandfather’s voice reciting Homer and then switching into a byzantine chant…
Dress Talk is my monologue voiced through the preciousness of memories treasured, of lessons learned, of teachings and hopes represented by women reaching almost mythical status in their steady procession through my life.
