Ron Meick — Recent Work
Opening Reception: Saturday, September 30, 1-4 pm
The Washington Printmakers Gallery is pleased to present Anomaly, recent prints by Ron Meick. The printmaking process has many variables that affect the image, and final results are a balance of the controlled and the unintentional. Significant variables include the amount or consistency of ink applied to the plate or matrix, the paper selection, and even the tempo of rolling through the hand cranked press.
From a multi-color lithograph breathing out of sync, to overlapping forms of color that coax images from the many layers; these prints contain anomalies, irregularities, and deviations that give them their unique characteristics. They utilize an open fabric mesh matrix with a semi-transparent structure that produces phenomena with unexpected metaphoric qualities through the interaction of color and shape. A dimensionality is produced by the interplay of textures that shift, bringing life into a static plane to make a compelling image from multiple perspectives.
Anomaly celebrates the duality of technique and concept, the intermingling of the tangible and the intangible. The human imperfections, wrinkles, registration of color, or inconsistencies of the process are like finding revelations of the extraordinary that lie beneath the surface of everyday experience. They are visual landscapes where we can extend personal narratives and context.
