Artist Statement
Photographs are the basis of most of my printmaking.
The tactile nature of woodblock carving, I find both satisfying and challenging. In both the printmaking mediums I find myself drawn to landscapes. Portraits too which I have explored in Black and White photography are interesting in screenprint form. Layering wax mixed with oil paint on top of screenprints lends them a sheen and a richness not otherwise achieved. Dennis O’Neill at Hand Print Workshop shared this and other ways of working that were unique. As I go forward, I hope to continue to expand my work printmaking. Although I can no longer work with Dennis I hope to carry on his spirit of collaboration and generosity.
